Ingredients:

1 cup Moong dal and Masoor dal

2-3 drumsticks (cut into 3-inch pieces)

2 green chilies (slit)

1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp cumin seeds

A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

2 tbsp oil

Salt to taste

2-3 cups water

Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions:

Wash the Moong dal and Masoor dal thoroughly.

In a pressure cooker, add the Moong dal and Masoor dal, drumsticks, turmeric powder, and 4 cups of water. Cook for 3 whistles. If you do not have a pressure cooker, cook this in a pot, which may take 25-30 minutes.

  • In a small pan, heat the oil or ghee.
  • Add the cumin seeds, green chilies, asafoetida(hing), curry leaves, and ginger-garlic paste and Fry for a few seconds until aromatic.
  • Pour this tempering over the simmering dal and drumstick mixture and mix well.
  • Adjust salt and consistency as needed. If the dal is too thick, add a little water to reach your desired consistency.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves if desired.

Serve hot with rice or roti.
