Mushroom Masala

A flavorful Indian curry dish perfect for serving with rice, naan, or roti.

Ingredients:

250 grams mushrooms (cleaned and sliced)

2 tablespoons oil or ghee

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 large onion (finely chopped)

2 medium tomatoes (pureed)

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

1 green chili (slit, optional)

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon garam masala

1/4 cup plain yogurt (optional, whisked)

1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)

Salt to taste

Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions:

Prepare Mushrooms:

Clean and slice the mushrooms. Set aside.

Heat Oil:

Heat oil or ghee in a large pan or skillet over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Sauté Onions:

Add the chopped onions and green chili. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.

Add Tomatoes:

Add the tomato puree and cook until the oil starts to separate from the mixture (about 5-7 minutes).

Add Ginger-Garlic Paste:

Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.

Spices:

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.

Cook Mushrooms:

Add the sliced mushrooms. Stir to coat them with the masala. Cook for 5-7 minutes until they release water and soften.

Add Yogurt and Water:

(Optional) Stir in whisked yogurt for a creamy texture. Add water to adjust the curry consistency. Simmer for another 5 minutes.

Finish with Garam Masala:

Sprinkle garam masala and mix well.

Garnish and Serve:

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, or roti.
