Simple recipe for Matar Mushroom Rice

 Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Matar Mushroom Rice:

Ingredients:

2 cup rice (washed and soaked for 20 minutes)

200g mushrooms (sliced)

1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)

1 medium onion (thinly sliced)

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

1 green chili (slit, optional)

2-3 tablespoons oil or ghee

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1-2 bay leaves

2-3 cloves

1 small cinnamon stick

2-3 dry red chilli

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)

Salt to taste

4 cups water

Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions:

Rinse the Rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky. set aside.

Prepare the Mushroom and Peas

Sauté the spices:

Heat oil or ghee in a deep pan or kadai.

Add cumin seeds, bay leaves, cloves, and cinnamon. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.

Stir in garlic, ginger, and green chili. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add Mushrooms and Peas:

Add sliced mushrooms and green peas. Cook on medium heat until the mushrooms release water and soften.

Spice it Up:

Add turmeric powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

Add rice: Add the drained rice to the pan, ensuring it is evenly mixed with the mushroom and peas masala. 

Add water: Pour 4 cups of water into the pan, stir, and bring it to a boil.

Cook and Serve:

Cover the pan and let it cook on low heat for 5 minutes so the flavors combine.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
